Historic Structures

A defining characteristic of Cape Cod is its rich history, which is deeply embedded and highlighted in the region’s development patterns and building styles. However development pressures and natural hazards threaten many of these historic resources. Inventorying historic resources is a critical first step in their preservation. This dashboard shows the number of buildings and structures with construction dates of 1950 and earlier that have been inventoried and are contained in Massachusetts Historical Commission’s database of inventoried historic resources. There is a modest number of historically significant buildings constructed after 1950 which are not included in this; they are primarily in Truro and Wellfleet. Use the dashboard and its filters below to examine the patterns across the region and filter by town and time period.
