Year-Round Population

Year-round residents, seasonal residents, and visitors, all contribute to the region’s social character. American Community Survey (ACS) data estimate Barnstable County had a year-round population of nearly 228,000 for 2021. Though preliminary 2020 Decennial Census data show a year-round population of over 228,000, further decennial census population statistics have yet to be released. The County’s population is overwhelming white (nearly 90%) and English-speaking (again nearly 90%). Black or African American and Two or More Races are the only two other racial groups comprising more than 2% of the population. The County is also older than the state (median age of 53.9 years, compared to 39.6 years).
